Setting Scanners to be in Presentation mode out of their stand
Scanners are typically designed to work so that when they are not sat in a stand or base, they need to be triggered to scan a barcode, and will only scan a presented barcode automatically if they are in a stand. Some scanners can be programmed to be in "presentation mode" at all times, meaning that a barcode can simply be presented to the scanner and be read, without a need to press the scanner's trigger.
The scanners can be programmed either with a utility provided by the manufacturer, or by scanning programming barcodes. Note that some scanners are laser line scanners and incapable of scanning barcodes on screens, so they will need to be printed in order for the scanners to read them.
Honeywell Voyager MS95XX
Barcode Programming
This is a laser line scanner and so these barcodes will need to be printed.
1. Scan this barcode to turn the laser on when the scanner senses a barcode - this will remain on for 3 to 10 seconds

2. Scan this barcode to turn off the CodeGate function (the requirement to press the trigger) when the scanner is out of the stand

Honeywell Fusion MS3780
Barcode Programming
Fusion scanners have a primary and secondary laser pattern to allow for scanning from all angles, and so two barcodes need to be scanned to program out of stand operation. This is a laser line scanner and so these barcodes will need to be printed.
1. Scan this barcode to turn off the CodeGate function (the requirement to press the trigger) on the primary pattern when the scanner is out of the stand
|
|
2. Scan this barcode to turn off the CodeGate function (the requirement to press the trigger) on the secondary pattern when the scanner is out of the stand

The original documentation can be found
here - the CodeGate configuration page is R-5.
Once the scanners are in presentation mode out of their stand, they will try and read any barcode presented to them at all times. Take care not to let the scanners read barcodes during a transaction that they shouldn't be reading, otherwise you may face issues like an unwanted item being added to the transaction.
