Server Migration Process

Server Migration Process

Our standard process for a server migration is:-

Current configuration check - 1 hour

      1) Check of the current system and setup to ensure all software is compatible on the new server.

This includes 3rd Party software such as Bartender, feedback will be given at this stage of any issues identified

Prep Phase - done prior to the planned date of migration  - 1 hour

      2) New Server provisioned along side the existing server - Done by the relevant IT support - Requirements for the server can be found here Fidelity for IT Guide
      3) Check that the new server/host meets the specification required for the software as per the Fidelity for IT Guide
      4) Installation of software on the new server, restoration of a backup to test SQL server setup, permissions and performance.

Migration Phase - 2 hours

      5) Decommission the system on the old server (remove the software licence, disable the system, take a final backup)
      6) Restore the system on the new server
      7) Switch the new server on to the IP address of the old server - Done by IT
      8) Commission the system on the new server including final testing

Final decommissioning of the old server

Done by the relevant IT support

Additional information to consider

If the new server cannot be put onto the IP address of the old server we will need to update the details in the POS terminals, HHT's, TCP Clients etc. We will need to know how many of each and we can then advise on the additional work needed
