GPoS / TCP - Hostname for Comms (Applies to Gpos 1.64 / TCP 2.11 onwards)
With the arrival of TCP 2.11 and Gpos 1.64 communications to Total Control Premier have changed. instead of the traditional method of an IP address, it now uses the hostname of the hardware. The naming is absolute and must match exactly including any capitalisation.
To input this new change the new information goes into the IP address field. Please also ensure that none of the tills has the same hostname if you are working from a base image or clone as this will cause issues.
Also when viewing the site structure the till will look like it is in all capitals for its name, this is by design it isn't until you edit the POS that you see the correct name including upper and lowercase letters. I have given an example below.
*Troubleshooting*
In the event, you have done everything correctly but it is not communicating if you were to view the Windows Event Logs > Applications and Service Logs > Total Control Premier and Gpos System. Between these two logs, you will find an error where it will report not being able to find the Hostname AYZ in any of the data connections, at the same time it will show the name the till is attempting to communicate with which will allow you to double-check the settings you filled in earlier on Total Control Premier and adjust.
